As I was writing the latest Substack about the Shuddertown series and its effect on Morning Glories, I thought it would be a cool bonus to showcase the official Existence 2.0 pitch, followed by the very first script Nick Spencer submitted to me as his editor, Existence 2.0 #1. The launch of his career.
A few questions popped into my head when I had this idea…First, do I need Nick's approval to post it? I honestly have no idea, but I don’t see why not. It’s 16 years old after all, and was published. Is there a time limit on things like this? Who knows. Just in case, I am only releasing the edited version.
And as a fun fact, which I briefly touched on in the other substack, since it's pretty much exactly 15 years later, in March 2010, Michael Bay was set to produce the adaptation of Existence 2.0 through his Platinum Dunes company, with Miles Millar and Alfred Gough writing the screenplay, and Paramount Pictures distributing the movie. There have been no further announcements since. None of which is surprising, as back then, Hollywood was scrambling over Image Comics’ ready-made IPs to turn them into movies. Back when making original movies was a thing.
Without further ado, here is the winning text pitch.
